Curriculum

At Larkhill we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is delivered through a topic based approach, although we do not follow a prescribed or set programme of topics. The emphasis is on providing children with rich opportunities to explore areas they are interested in and to provide them with time to ‘master’ skills.

We teach to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and to the new National Curriculum,   which was introduced in September 2014. The National Curriculum is designed to provide children with an introduction to essential skills and knowledge which aim to prepare them for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

English, Maths, Computing, PE, RE, & PSHE are all taught as discrete, timetabled  subjects, while we operate a ‘topic’ approach to other subjects which work well together, e.g. Science, Geography, History, Design & Technology, Art & Music. We are constantly developing innovative ways of giving the pupils opportunities to practise their key English & Maths skills within the topic work we do.
